pictures of me on your bedroom door

corin tucker by seth kayeNow i know i saw you pretty late in the game.
i went with the boys to pearl street. may 16th, 2000. all hands on the bad one. the first weeks of a three-month long tour.
we were running late and i can't remember who even instigated going. did both boys go? did you?
The door at pearl street in northampton faces center stage and in its frame i found beth ditto, shirtless and doing the twist. to say that it made my pants feel funny would be an understatement. there was a whiff of junior high gym in the air. i scanned the crowd. these were my people.
i'd just settled on the fact that in order to socialize i'd have to get involved in some kind of scene or, worse yet, scene(s) again and figured--if i had to pick--i really wouldn't mind this one.
To my ponytail, the smelly boys from campus, and the butt waggin Smithies down in front that night: you were everything i could've asked for at that moment and you made excellent partners-in-crime.

Carrie Brownstein by Seth Kaye
I danced with my hands over my head whenever carrie did a clock-tower strum.

Janet inspired kim gordon style headbanging. (heavy on the knee bends.)

Corin called for emphatic single-foot stomping with a puffed chest and pouty mouth.

Finally liking your music felt like a relief. dig me out was in maximum rotation (all hands on the bad one soon would be) and there were certain things about myself that i figured would never change. this was my first real proof--the feeling of coming full-circle.
i left with a pin pack. one of the boys has (or had) corin. some days i still can't decide if janet or carrie gets to be the bad one or if i'll just go with carla.

i'm so selfish. i wanted the woods to be a resounding new beginning. not an end.
but if that's what you had left then i'll gratefully accept it and wish you well...
Could i also get a full-length from The Spells. please?

WTF?!? I Didn't Even Get to See This Tour and Now You're Acting Like You Can Just End This Relationship After a Record Like The Woods

From Sleater-Kinney's website:

After eleven years as a band, Sleater-Kinney have decided to go on indefinite hiatus. The upcoming summer shows will be our last. As of now, there are no plans for future tours or recordings.

We feel lucky to have had the support of many wonderful people over the years. We want to thank everyone who has worked with us, written kind words about us, performed with us, and inspired us.

But mostly we want to extend our gratitude to our amazing fans. You have been a part of our story from the beginning. We could not have made our music without your enthusiasm, passion, and loyalty. It is you who have made the entire journey worthwhile.

With love and thanks,
Sleater-Kinney

Okay, well, I know Janet has Quasi and Carrie will definitely end up doing some hot thing but what about Cori? What now?
I'm upset. I know I have no right to be but I'm upset.

Neko, i love you in your sailor pants. I love this night. I love your set list and your merch and i love your merch lady. I love your stories about your dog and the way you and kelly hogan banter: two songs for sad ladies. check.
I love pretending to sing along (but really just whimpering along) to your records. I love that i didn't like you at first.
I love the girl in front of me tonight who wanted so bad to see herself in you, and who sighed deeply when i rubbed her back and said: don't cry she loves you as much as you love her. because she knew i believed it.
But mostly i love the way it seems like your voice is being transmitted from outer space and you just happened to be tuned into the frequency.

mark iboldI love you,
Mark Ibold's boy-beard.

I've never felt this way
about you before.

You just look so...gooood.
What?
Maybe it's Lee's juju.

...Actually, I lie. There must've been at least two times when I came listening to Free Kitten but thinking Pavement.

Or more.

Forget all that.
It's just the beard.
