the other night at a reading at our store a young lady (who publishes a local journal) mentioned something about websurfing at work.i said, oh you have an office job. i remember those. you should check out this site and, too embarrassed to speak the words aloud, i began to write down TheSuperficial’s web address.
oh!, she said, i already read that. do you know gofugyourself?
yeah yeah, I said. and then she passed on this gem to me:
What Would Tyler Durden Do

This cracks me up because every semester a student uses Fight Club as a supprting example for the university's entry level writing exam: Fight Club for freedom of choice; Fight Club for discovering your personal roots; Fight Club for why teachers shouldn't award students with gold stars (seriously). I should really watch it again before judging it, but I feel this epitomizes the failure of the american educational system.
people take chuck palahniuk's renegade narrators way to seriously.
it's not anymore than carl hiaasen but they use him as a substitute for a true political leader. it won't be long before we're just going with the inflatable pilots from Airplane.
there's this book History Lessons that's a survey of what other countries learn about U.S. history. you should read it so that i don't have to.
i heard you killed tonight, lady
